The Winky-Eyed Jesus and Other Undescribables
Fully versed in the arcane secrets of elite Ninja recumbent bicycle touring, at the advanced age of forty five, Scott Wayland set out to meet his country face to face, rubber to the road, with nothing but his lactic acid-addled wits and a burning desire to know what the country had to say for itself.
Strange creatures, cantankerous weather, odd characters, and a huge, big, bad, beautiful land give him the experience of a lifetime. The Winky-Eyed Jesus and Other Undescribables is an intimate journey into the heart of America, its people and landscape, and one man’s struggle to take it all in.
What a trip! If I could, I would give this five stars simply for the enjoyment I got out of reading Scott Wayland’s account of crossing North America on 2 wheels. Scott did great in his story telling, better than most writing this type of book. Like others I wish they would add a short post script,…
Vivid and Inspiring I wish I had discovered this book before embarking on my own cross-country bicycle tour — on a recumbent no less. Before leaving, I had searched the web for some well written, insightful, and above all, useful stories about biking across America. I wanted some idea about what I was getting myself into. Unfortunately, I mostly found a bunch of really boring, mainly inadequate, tedious to read blogs of the “…I got up early, ate a bowl of oatmeal…man, that mountain was steep….then it…
