Shimano SPD-SL PD R-540 – Black
Ask anyone who’s put in hours and hours on the bike about pedals, and they’ll likely make a single recommendation: Shimano. Shimano’s pedals seem to last forever, require little to no maintenance, and cleats are easy to find when it comes time to replace them. The PD-R540 SPD-SL Pedal seen here is among Shimano’s entry-level pedals, but you don’t sacrifice performance -it’s just a touch heavier than the Ultegra or Dura-Ace offerings.Clip into the Shimano PD-R540 SPD-SL Road Bike Pedals and simply ride — a large binding target makes clipping in fast and easy, and you can pedal with confidence and stability thanks to a wide pedal platform. On serious riding days, crank down on the adjustable cleat tension to ensure a solid, efficient ride, or loosen it a bit on calmer training days. Maintenance is virtually nonexistent, thanks to a sealed bearing cartridge axle unit that keeps dirt and grime.

All you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about these pedals I’ll start by saying here comes a mountain of a review because I’m a tough critic when it comes to my purchases and try just about every product out there before deciding Helmets for example i tried Kask (winner) Specalized, Giro, catlike, etc.. And similarly for pedals i tried everything to find that perfect combination of elements. I tried speedplay, SPD mountain style and SPD SL (not look for reasons indicated below). In no particular order:1- Ease of entry and exit – As a city…
Good pedals, good price, work well These are the 1st SPD-SL pedals I’ve used. I have been using a variety of SPD pedals including A-600 which are very nice. My shoes were MTB shoes. I recently bought Bontrager Circuit shoes which are compatible with both cleats. I didn’t feel stable when walking with the SPD cleats so I bought these pedals. There is a definite difference. I wish I had a power meter to measure the difference in power applied but it feels better and that is worth a lot. Walking is improved- I wouldn’t want to walk…
Tough little buggers, lasting ~5k miles so far. Great pedals for a road bike and mostly-paved touring, really easy to clip into and out of, and they work well in traffic. I’ve owned them for 2 years now and ridden 4-6k miles, they haven’t let me down yet. Some of the finish has worn off on mine but that is more because of me occasionally pedaling while not clipped in (you keep one foot clipped in and the other unclipped yet on top of the pedal while in slow traffic so you can stop quicker). These pedals are specifically for…
