Nantucket Bicycle Basket Co. Lightship Collection Adult Bicycle Basket, Oval, Stained
The Lightship Collection baskets are woven with a very fine rattan cane material, which is the outer skin of the natural rattan fiber. These baskets are replicas of the Nantucket Lightship baskets, which were first produced in Nantucket during the whaling era of the 1800s.Most bicycle baskets are woven in a way you would make a decorative basket, one that you would use in your home as an accent piece. The problem with this is that this type of weave is not conducive to use in bicycle baskets, which serve a functional purpose and are used on a daily basis. The everyday wear-and-tear, as well as the natural elements on these bike baskets necessitate that they be woven in a tougher, stronger method. Our unique rolled rim weave ensures the baskets will hold up to the demands of everyday bike use. The Nantucket Bike Basket Company specializes in unique, hand-crafted baskets for your bicycle. Made from high-quality materials using durable weaving techniques, Nantucket Bike Baskets are made to last, while giving your bike that classic look.

After a few months of use the basket began to tear. After several months of use the entire bottom ripped open. It’s now unusable. We are partly to blame for sometimes getting caught in Chicago rain, which I believe exacerbated the…
